What is Ball Moss?
Tillandsia recurvata, commonly known as Jamaican Ball Moss or Scorn of the Earth, is a flowering plant of the Bromeliaceae family. It primarily grows on mango, pine, magnolia, and oak trees.
Ball moss has a spherical shape and comprises gray-green twisted spines with long whiskers. During the spring, the plant's bluish-violet flowers bloom on the long stems of host trees. It feeds on water vapors and other nutrients in its surroundings, recycling nitrogen back into the soil once it falls to the ground and decays.
